Our August 2024 essay is “Why UX Professionals Need to Care About Product-Market Fit,” by Bill Albert. The essay describes what product-market fit (PMF) is and how UX research and practice can contribute to achieving PMF.

This issue also includes two research papers. One is on simulated user experiences in self-driving cars, and the other is on a tool for reporting violent events in healthcare settings.

The first article is “Enhancing Work and Entertainment Experience During Automated Driving: A Study in Interior Design,” by Michaela Teicht, Particia Haar, and Arnd Engeln. The authors compared user experiences in self-driving cars in which humans’ primary tasks will be working or consuming entertainment in classic and innovative automotive interiors.

The second article is “Assessing SPARS’ Usability: An Aggregate Reporting Tool for

Workplace Violence,” by Meagan Foster, Chao-Chin Liu, Amy C. Cole, Karthik Adapa, Nancy Havill, and Lukasz Mazur.  The authors evaluated a novel approach to increasing the reporting of workplace violence events in healthcare settings in the US, many of which currently go unreported.
